Garage Setup

So I just found out:

Each patient suffering from bruised ribs recovers at varied rates. But generally, as with costochondral separation, bruised ribs requires 3 to 4 weeks healing period. Although healing is slow, patients need to do their share to make complete recovery successful. Rehabilitating bruised ribs mean using the lungs normally. Abnormal breathing can lead to pneumonia.

SUCKS!

I Figured It Was Time

This is something I posted on my band’s MySpace page tonight.

***

I haven’t written in here much, so there’s no possible way most of you could know this, but to set the record straight: I was at odds with myself. In a war, of sorts. Last October, I just decided it was time for it to end. Or begin.

I was struggling with very low self-confidence… as an artist, as a man. Before October of last year, there was this nasty notion echoing in my head that I wasn’t good enough–that I simply would never contribute anything of significance to anything or anyone apart from jamming with my music buddies or playing at church or any other place where music is too often “safe.” Doubts about my career crept in as well–I didn’t know whether I could be successful at teaching guitar after a year of making very little income. But some things in life you have control over, and others you don’t. Writing music and sharing it with others is something I realized I do have control over.

So it began… the hour it came out, I was thrust out of my self-pity when I first listened to In Rainbows. Or perhaps lifted is a better word. Disgusted by a years of sparse writing, a lack of inspiration, and just feeling owned by my own feelings of inadequacy, I suddenly dared to dream bigger. I don’t even think it was Radiohead so much as it was just something I needed. Cynicism just fled, and in one passionate, transparent Craigslist post, I cried out to anyone who would listen.

I started to post two, three times a week, seeking other like-minded musicians who were equally impacted by Radiohead’s latest, and I began to receive enthusiastic responses. Electronic/ambient musicians, jazz players, over-the-hill dudes, locals, some from over an hour away, some with raw talent, some with chops but no soul, and a whole lot of flakey bass players.

But on one fateful night, I just knew. I knew we had something special. Nick was first, then Usman. Then out of nowhere, Nick had an old friend in Santa Cruz. Dan the lefty! And then… and then…

No bass player yet. But after 9 rehearsals/tryouts, an open mic performance, and an electronic music course, a continuous stream of encouragement from family, friends from every circle, students, acquaintances, and even strangers through Craigslist, I’m more confident than ever. It’s really been flattering.

Now we have six pretty solid songs, and more on the way… So far, this ride has been pretty awesome. And I mean it when I say thanks for your support.

And I mean it… especially to you, faithful blog readers!
