waking up

09.28.08

1) Hearing Elton preach… good stuff. “Loving Jesus is reason enough.”
2) Sermon props! HAHAHAHA, maybe we’ll get a few more people coming to our show now that SFCAC’s entire English Congregation knows about my band.
3) Older brother figures like Eric Yee, Rayfil, and Justin.
4) All the guys really supporting my music…
5) Middle Place, cheap and good
6) Sunday afternoon nap.
7) Nick and I working out a lot of stuff… we’re going to do crazier harmonies now.
8) Ipin (my older cousin!) is leaving for Prague tomorrow, but I got to see her tonight before she left, and show her how to play her first notes on the guitar (she has been itching to learn for a while).
9) Mom making me some noodles for a late dinner.
10) That some things can wait until tomorrow.

09.27.08 – G.O.D. Moment

1) My boy scout t-shirt with a rainbow flag; it’s so provocative
2) Not starting lessons until later than usual (2:30pm)
3) Good lesson
4) Working out arrangements with Usman
5) Usman learns so fast
6) Safe trip to SF
7) “Flint” sounds even more awesome now, thanks to Nick’s electronic track he inserted into the ending
8) Hanging with SFCAC guys
9) D&A has gravy-egg and beef!
10) Chatting w/Nate Chan about the music industry.

G.O.D. – forgot to post this yesterday, but I met my second YouTube fan at Barefoot. He learned House of Cards from my vid and was freaked out to see me. hahahaha

09.26.08 – Hotness and Practice

1) Esther inviting me to an Ameriprise lunch (FREE THAI CURRY FROM DUSITA’S!)
2) Getting to know Brian Cheung’s story a bit… good dude.
3) Being able to eat the HOT curry from Dusita’s… I usually only order medium spicy and think it’s fine, but man, was the jump from medium to hot HUGE. It burned coming out tonight.
4) Rich Hawthorne… good boss.
5) Barefoot Wi-Fi
6) Last lesson w/S***. Sad to see him go. This is the same kid that expected me to be mad at him for not being good enough, and understood all on his own that the reason he gets frustrated with himself is because his dad always told him he wasn’t good enough. And I’ve met him… his dad is a real life asshole, always gives him a hard time about every little thing. Today, I told him I believed in him and wanted to see him go really far with guitar, and offered to teach through e-mail for free because (I really do believe in him).
7) 7-Eleven saving me… I was shaking like crazy! (I don’t know why, this never happens, but I guess it’s also because I got really hungry all of a sudden. My super hot thai lunch that was at a normal hour).
8) Brian Lum and talking about our friends’ styles of humor.
9) Band practice… we are really starting to get things DOWN.
10) I am getting better at EQ’ing the rehearsal tracks for us to listen to.

09.25.08 – A G.O.D. Moment and a Good Thursday

1) A&J w/Q., Dan’s best friend… I had a good time.
2) Quickly’s
3) My intro lesson at Montessori went REALLY well apparently*. See G.O.D. below.
4) Seeing TED at Barefoot!
5) Good lessons w/A*** and K****… we’re really starting to get over some huge hurdles.
6) Good relationship with students’ families.
7) Volcano Tacos at Taco Bell… so spicy and cheap!
8) TNG… a smaller group, but still really good. Lots of sharing and good Scripture stuff (Psalm 51).
9) Talking with Junshien and watching Palin fail in the Katie Couric interview. Some laughs.
10) Just realizing how much of a mess the US is in economically… It’s better to just be informed.

* G.O.D. (Game Over of the Day) – The Montessori teacher said, “I must say, that went really well… I really enjoyed it… but um, we’re supposed to have another teacher come in next week and… I feel like we have an obligation to, you know, go through with it… but I don’t think there’s any way he could top that.” I was like OMG HELL YEAH (IN MY HEAD) PAY ME MY MONEY. HAHAHA jk.

I was really humbled. I mean… I wouldn’t have gotten this far (being self-employed and being able to pay the bills with 30 students if it were not for all the things God has orchestrated to shape my journey and life experience and whatever. Who knows, I still might not get the gig. Anything could happen. I will find out either way in two weeks.
